Kennel, pet hotel or home boarding?

  • Kennels and boarding facilities: staff on site, routines, play areas, and space for many dogs. Good for confident, social dogs.
  • Pet hotels and suites: more space and comfort, extras like webcams, pools and grooming, at a higher price.
  • Home boarding: your dog stays in a sitter's home, often with few other dogs. Good for anxious dogs, puppies and seniors.
  • Pet sitting at your home: a sitter visits or stays at your place. Often best for cats, who prefer their own territory.

Your checklist

  1. Visit first. Look at where your pet will sleep and play. Is it clean, cool and secure?
  2. Air conditioning: essential in the UAE. Ask how they keep pets cool, and how outdoor time works in summer.
  3. Vaccinations: good places ask for up-to-date vaccination records. That protects your pet too.
  4. Vet access: ask which vet they use in an emergency, and how they'll contact you.
  5. Staff and supervision: how many pets per carer, and is someone there overnight?
  6. A trial stay: book a night or a daycare day before a long trip.
  7. Updates: ask if they send photos or videos. It makes being apart much easier.

Getting your pet ready

Pack their usual food (sudden changes upset tummies), any medication with written instructions, a familiar blanket or toy, and your vet's details. Keep goodbyes short and calm.
